a piece of cultural pride

I love wearing my batik dress. Partly because it's pretty and matches my blue tights, and also because there's a hint of national pride that comes with it. After all, I am an Indonesian, and batik is supposed to be our most renowned national heritage. Perhaps living overseas for many years has actually made me appreciate my culture a lot more. There's plenty to appreciate though, seeing that the art has been around for centuries, and the number of gorgeous designs out there is endless.

In the making. Extremely intricate stuff.
Image from flickr. More info there too.

A vintage photo of a Javanese dancer wearing batik.

*EDIT:
I was afraid this would become a boring cultural lesson,
so I've reduced the images and content.

P.S. How do you guys like my new layout?

Hello Anna,

An apology is duo I would say, because I have been away for so long and have not commented on your amazing blog. Hopefully you will find it in you to forgive me and realize I have just been busy and it has been hard to follow all the comments and posts you have left. But still, I am sorry! Truly!!

Thank you for your cute comments. Henry the SuperDino is so happy to hear you think he is cute, and though normally I
would say that no they are not allowed to be cute, I will make an exception because if not I would hurt his feelings.

Now I shall comment on your latest post…

How beautiful you look, with the bright blue leggings and the gorgeous dress. It is quite beautiful indeed.

I had no idea what Batik is, so thank you for the little class you held there.. hehe

Wow, it is indeed extremely unique and pretty, the pictures and the Indonesian style.

Appreciating one’s home place is what makes us us, which I guess is what makes you unique because any other girl might have not looked at that dressed but you took it and look, now it is wonderful.

My my, the picture of the girl wearing the batik, it is so pretty because she has such a unique look and the dress overall is amazing when put together, and even separately.

Oh I like the new lay out, quite professional with a girlie side to it I would say. The colors are all nice to the eye, which is good.

The I heart My Lego Window is so extremely cute. So unique it is and such imagination and creative you have in you to have made it. Very cool.

Skirts that let you truly twirl and all makes me feel so girlie and wonderful. It makes me giggle lots. It is very pretty, as is your striped blouse.

How wonderful to have met other Etsy people who love it as much as you.

My sister is like you, that she is quite messy and I just cleaned it for her about 3 days ago and it looks messy like heck.

Those picture of the color coordinated messes is frigging awesome. Maybe I should show this to my sister, give her some ideas. The whole neat freak thing… yeah that would be me but it is mostly with my room and my belongings. My desk in the family room has to be clean at all times when it comes to my books and when I am around it. However, the rest of the house having to be clean… does not bother me too much and maybe it did once upon a time but I learned to ignore it because then I would be cleaning all the time after my brothers and sister, which was quite unfair.

The inner- French-girl, I wish I could also bring mine out more and be super chic like them, but sadly I doubt I will ever be able to unless I move there ot get different friends and different clothes and different almost everything. How is that working for you by the way? Channeling your inner French girl? The necklace is indeed pretty. Cool idea to swap necklaces.
Oh and the red skirt is simply amazing, something I have wanted to add to my wardrobe for quite some time but it seems the stores out there do not think I should because I have not yet found one. Darn them.

Skirts with pockects! I currently own about 5 of them and love them all. It is very pretty indeed, the teal skirt. You have such an eye for these awesome findings. The flats are also adorable by the way.
Oh I want a typewriter, and now you have made my mind up on what color I would like it to be. That is one retor looking type writer. I can only wish.

Ahaha, how adorable the little bunny with the stop blogging saying is. But sadly, will have to ignore it because I have many other blogs to go and comment on.

Sorry for the horrible delay and the horrible comment I am leaving you.
Time is short and so many posts I have missed that I am trying to put them all in.

How was your trip by the way?

Have an amazing week and do not worry, soon I will start to be more consistent with the blogging and commenting department. I have not forgotten you and your amazing blog.

Oh and have you read my little story on one of my posts?

Those blue tights are absoutely perfect with your batik dress! I really love the photo of the old woman making the fabric, something about the colors and the contrast of the polka dots and the batik is really lovely :)
