so you think you can dance

I've always loved ballerina images. I'm attracted to their strong, yet graceful, postures and movements.

images from Vogue Girl Korea, February 2006

When I was in primary school, there was this popular Japanese comic book series about a young ballerina (to my Indonesian readers: inget serial Mari-Chan kan? :)). My besties and I were so obsessed with it, not so much for the story, but we'd spend hours after (and during) school copying the artwork and drawing our own little ballerinas.
I didn't actually expect to find this cover in google, and it really takes me back. Every little detail. Good times.

I don't draw much any more (although I'm suddenly inspired to see if I've still got it), and I certainly do NOT dance (not enough rhythm to save my life), but I was delighted to find some ballerina charms to make necklaces with. This one is available in my Etsy, and is now also available at Leeloo (yay!).

Leeloo has recently restocked their online shop with lots of lovely stuff, so be sure to check them out. All prices there are in Australian dollars, but they have a nifty currency converter on all the item pages.
Also, did you know that they're having a giveaway? Go to Daydream Lily to find out more and enter!

I love ballet pictures,
my Mum could have been a pro dancer had she not got married and had myself and my brother,
so anything ballet related makes me think of her.
Sadly she can only wear 18k gold or above, I'd so buy her the necklace otherwise!

That ballerina necklace is so lovely! I also love the ballerina pics you posted. Beautiful colors.

I took one ballet class when I had to fulfill a P.E. requirement in community college. I was so terrible at it - I have no grace or balance at all! But I loved the tights and shoes :)

Beautiful pics! I never went to ballet when I was small, but I had I small ballet dress, very pink and very cute. Too bad I probably throw that away when I grew up...

What a lovely post! I recently bought some ballerina charms myself, but I hadn't made anything with them yet. I bought them for my mother. She likes ballerinas for very sentimental reasons, her first pair of earrings as a little girl were of ballerinas. Your comic is adorable. I was a huge fan of Sailormoon, but I probably would've switched if I'd seen the ballerinas.

Hello there my darling.
How I have missed reading your beautiful posts.

Yes, yours has finally arrived. I appears that my mother kept it in a drawer and had it not been because of her absent state now I would have never looked in that mail drawer. So happy was I when I saw.
Jumping up and down, a smile spread large across my face and such happy thoughts running through my head.

Thank you ever so much my darling!!!It was one of the loveliest things to recieve such a darling card.

Mine has not yet set out because I have to wait for my mother to come back from a trip so I will be able to fulfil my word on sending one back to you.

Do not worry darling heart, it will get there in time.

Oh and what a lovely post this is. Such facination I have also held for ballerinas.
When 5-8 yrs old I did ballet myself. It was for about 3-4 years but when I moved to USA I lost it and never again took it up.

You can imagine how depressed I am about me not going back to it...

Beautiful pictures by the way.

So yes, I shall be rsending your postcard in a week or so. PLease do be patient and I am so sorry for the wait.

Yours now hangs up on my wall, along with many other special things.

Anyways darling...have a lovely week filled with many more postcards and lovely things.

p.s. the postcard necklace is simply adorable! So jelouse am I of you now. hehe

These pictures are gorgeous. I used to do pointe when I was younger...I still kick myself for giving it up in my "rebellious" years...

You would love this ballerina necklace pendant I have had for years but never wear, it's a small model of Degas' ballerina sculpture "the little rat" or something like that.

So cute, I love ballerina looks. My friend just did Alice in Wonderland and the movements were so pretty!
Haha and as a kid, sad as this is to admit, I was into dragonball z, so graceful ballerinas weren't quite what I liked to draw. lol

Ah, ballerinas. I love, and have always loved them as well. I don't know, ballet just seems like something almost ethereal and magical to me - maybe that's why.

I remember Mari Chan!! Sempet sampe maksa bunda daftarin ke les balet, fortunately she knows me better than I did, ga akan tahan lama, setelah euphoria mari chan selesai ga pengen lagi deh les balet.. kebayang kan ada cowok2 cakep tuh di sekolah balet, tapi di Indo yang les balet cewek smua!! sekarang juga jadi curiga sama cowo yang doyan balet...hahahahaha

Vogue Girl? lucu ya, bukan Teen Vogue?

The images in that editorial are absolutely breathtaking, thanks for sharing them. I am completely smitten with the front dress in the second photo down on the left!

Ballerinas are kind of like the closest thing we have to real life sized fairies :)
