hide behind

{source}

I like the idea of carrying around my camera with me wherever I go - whether it be the DSLR, manual 35mm, or the polaroid - but I still tend to feel self-conscious about it, because they're each rather big and attention-grabbing. Being naturally shy and awkward to begin with doesn't help either. I want to feel that I can hide behind my camera, instead of get attention because of it. Does that sound weird? Do you ever feel that way?

It's always when I don't have my camera that the most lovely things pop into view!! I think it's a great idea to take it everywhere! Go for it! :)

I totally know what you mean, I get really shy about taking pictures in public too but I think the more you do it, the more comfortable and less awkward you'll feel.

P.S. These gorgeous photos are so perfect for this post!

I always got two cameras in my bag but it gets so heavy..It doesn't sound weird at all, sometimes when I take pictures people stare at me, makes me feel so uncomfortable !

Yes I agree that I feel like that sometimes and I wish I could take more photos. I love the pictures in this post.

I LOVE taking pictures, but sometimes I feel akward when I'm the only one that finds something interesting enough to take a picture because then everyone is staring. You take great pics!

That's exactly how I feel! When I used a point and shoot, I could easily hide behind my camera, but now with a DSLR...everyone is interested, so i often become the center of attention, which I hate...but I think little by little I'm learning to get over my shyness, which I realize stops me from taking lovely shots!

I have a small camera so I take it everywhere I go. I do get some stares, but I really don't pay attention!

i do feel the same way. i also take my cameras with me, but when the time comes that i pass a gorgeous field or building im too shy to hop out of the car and take it, usually because i do self portraiture and i feel weird taking shots of myself in the middle of nowhere! but sometimes its just to worth it to not!

I feel that way often. I dont carry a camera around with me mainly because of its attention grabbing properties. when I see people with cameras hung over their neck I get really shitty and think they are showing off but then when I think about it - where else are you going to put your camera... I love the mask photo - maybe halloween inspiration? its a beautifully crafted mask anyhow x

Oh, I face this dilemma all the time too! But I'm slowly trying to embrace the awkwardness of it all, haha

I always plan on carry on my camera to take pictures everywhere but I hate that people looks at me when I´m taking pictures, is like I have the pressure of get nice shots or something, I prefeer take pictures when nobody is arround me.

I hope I can get rid of that feeling so I can get more and more pictures ;)

Saludos,
Clau!

Oh yes! I absolutely understand. Living in hot hot Brisbane I get away with wearing a hat and sunnies when out and about... totally hiding from the world! (or so I think!) Carry your camera anyway! :) K

I know! I always feel weird when I pull out my big old lomo cameras. I hate/love being, "that girl who always has a camera attached to her face."

I know what you mean. Being shy myself, I always feel a bit self-conscious when I pull a camera out in public. When I'm alone the feeling I get from behind the lens is amazing.

I know exactly what you mean!! It does tend to draw attention when you've got a big camera. :) What I will often do is carry mine like a purse, with the strap over my shoulder - then I take pictures whenever I feel comfortable with the situation!

I know what you mean, I feel self conscious with a camera too. But you know what's strange? Take a camera with you to a place like a bar or a concert and suddenly everyone wants to be your friend. Alcohol makes us all exhibitionists. Haha.
