P.S. A few of these rings are still available at the lovely Leeloo.

seeing stars and spots

Sorry for the lack of outfit posts lately. I guess I've been uninspired fashion wise, and a bit camera shy. But here's one (finally!) to make up for it.

top: vintage, skirt: thrifted, scarf: came with a different top from Indonesia, shoes: Target (? It's pretty old)

7 loves

I've been tagged by Laura of See Hear Say to list 7 things I love.
Enjoy:

1. Being completely immersed in a movie from start to finish.

2. Warm, sincere smiles. Plain and simple.

3. Great conversations without any awkward silences.

4. Discovering/ thrifting hidden treasures.

5. Chocolate sprinkles on buttered toast. I practically grew up on this stuff.

6. Strawberries and cream.
Had some tonight while watching Wimbledon on the telly - seemed appropriate!
Hmm... these might go well with those choc sprinkles too.

7. Playing with my Polaroid!
These are my 2 latest shots. Pretty pleased with how they turned out.

What are your current 7 loves? If you'd like to play along, then I tag you!

move it

These outfits by Sally Scott are just my cup of tea. Loving the knee-length skirts and delicate patterns. The photo shoots are sweet too. I wonder if they managed to avoid getting any paint or spaghetti sauce on those clothes.
Each photo on their catalogue has a link to a short video of that particular shot. I think it's a really neat idea, but would be even better with some adorable music playing in the background. Dontcha think?

meet my new toy

I just got a polaroid camera! *squeals*
You usually hear about people finding a polaroid camera, then searching for the film. This was the other way around: I was lucky to unexpectedly find a pack of cheap film at an opshop (thrift shop) last week and bought it even though I didn't have the camera. I kept hearing abut how expensive polaroid films are, it just felt wrong not to. So then I hopped onto eBay, and a few days later this baby arrived! My first ever polaroid camera! *squeals some more*

These were the first pictures I took. The scanner doesn't quite replicate the colours.
Well, I didn't say they were good pictures. It was my first attempt after all. I think I'll do more outdoor shots, might be nice and brighter.

I didn't realize it until I bought them, but the film had actually expired 2 years ago (probably why they sold it cheap). Not that I mind, as long as it works I'm a happy bunny.

I want to be careful not to waste my remaining 18 shots, but on the other hand I'm really eager to start snapping away and I wonder if leaving it for too long will be bad for the already expired film.

Any ideas/inspiration for good photo subjects? I'm starting a list!

One idea I might just do is take a picture of my apartment building for the A Home for Alice project. It sounds like a really cool project. You should check it out if you haven't already.

Paying it Forward

{image source}

whoops, I was really meant to post this much sooner, but better late than never!

A little while ago, I signed up for a little "Pay it Forward" fun at Kylie's 3 Sheets blog. So now it's my turn.
Here's the deal:

I am entering into the following contract with the first 5 people who comment on this post and then commit to do the same on their blog. Just read below and if you feel up to the task copy the following into your blog and leave me a comment. I am willing to post overseas (I am in Australia).

1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. Whatcha get is whatcha get.
2. What I create will be just for you, with love.
3. It’ll be done this year (2009).
4. I will not give you any clue what it’s going to be. It will be something made in the real world and not something cyber. It may be weird or beautiful. Or it may be monstrous and annoying. (unlikely!) Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something strange.
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your blog post.
7. Send your mailing address - after I contact you.

Welcome to everyone. I will however, make an effort to do something that you like based on what I see on your blog.

Come on, don't be shy. Even if you don't think you're the creative type, you might end up surprising yourself - and making 5 other people very happy too!

So there you go, be the first 5 to leave a comment and be a part of it! Please leave your email address as well so I can contact you :)

cover girls

When I stumbled on these vintage magazine covers, I'm surprised by the exquisite artwork and creativity.
Looking through today's magazine covers - particularly those of women's magazines - it's always the same thing: a heavily retouched close up of the latest celebrity. That's it. I don't know about you, but I find it increasingly boring. I'm not even complaining about the retouching (we've heard it all before), it's just so repetitive and DULL.
In comparison, these are simply works of art:

These illustrations are so soft and lovely.Must say I love their headbands, and the left girl's collar.

It's all about big feather gowns.

I wish I could read that piece on "What career will you choose" in the Shrine magazine. I wonder what the hot career options were in 1928.

contrast: naughty (look closely, that's not a piece of chocolate) and nice (but then who knows what she's putting into her mix).

cozy and creative

I've come across many lovely apartment pictures online, but none has left me quite as smitten -and a bit jealous- as this apartment.

Every little DIY detail and vintage knick-knack makes this seem like the perfect cozy + creative home . I adore the framed book pages (I'm now inspired to do something similar)... and did you notice the polka dot fridge?! Adorable, no?

Apartment of Jasna Janekovic. Check out her Flickr set for much more.

don't forget your umbrella

I have recently discovered My Vintage Vogue, and I think it is simply fabulous! Perhaps some of you are familiar with the website already? Highly recommended for anyone who has a love for vintage fashion magazines. Their extensive photo collection will keep you busy for hours.

first 3 images from the Umbrella Girls section, and the last one is from the Audrey page.
They also have a flickr.

P.S. This is my 200th post!

warm and fuzzy

I've never been very good with winter clothes, which sucks right now as it feels like it's getting colder by the minute here in Melbourne. Floral dresses and skirts are unwillingly put away, and colour seems to disappear from the wardrobe. Dressing up isn't so much fun when whatever you wear ends up being covered by frumpy sweaters and jackets. So it was great to find this pretty pink Witchery sweater on my latest thrifting day out. It was only $3 too! Was actually $6, but they had a half-price day -- yay!

The sweet heart necklace and badge are from Maria.

There's more where those came from. Maria has absolutely spoilt me with this amazing heart-filled package. Her "one badge a day" (how cute is that name?) badges are just what I need to brighten up my winter wear. I've already pinned most of them already on my jackets and coats.

bright white

Take some time to stop and smell the flowers, enjoy the sunshine, and maybe even climb a tree.
