fotorama

We found my parent's old Fuji "Fotorama" instant camera the other day - which is pretty much like a Polaroid. After testing it with some fresh baterees, lo and behold - it works! It even had plenty of film still in it - but that's when the excitement ends, because it must've expired so long ago (circa '90s) that nothing came out on the film. The blank film formats are still pretty cool though (if anything, the colours match my dress!), I thought I'd draw/scribble something on them. Any ideas?
Apparently they're still producing these film in Japan, but they're quite pricey. Do let me know if you know where I can get it cheap or if you have any information on it.

We also found a couple of other vintage cameras (one of which belonged to my grandfather, and is all in Russian) , and took them to a camera repair place to have them checked. I'm picking them up tomorrow - can't wait! Hopefully they're in good enough shape, so that I can play with them.

not related to cameras, but my mum picks jasmines every morning from our front garden - and they look and smell so pretty!

fairy friends

Wouldn't it be nice so have some magical fairy friends?

PS. You're probably sick of me saying this by now, but I really am sorry for not getting back to all your comments lately! Will catch up as soon as I can.

pretty paper

Wonderful paper artwork by Helen Musselwhite.

Sorry, I haven't had the chance to post any new photos yet. Some things have been happening and it's been hard to keep up.

I hope you like these pretty pictures though. Have a good weekend! What do you have planned? Do tell.

stardust

I love this beautiful photoshoot for Vogue Italia, inspired by the glamorous movie starlets of the 1950s.

MUCH more to adore here (trust me, you'll want to see the whole set).

greetings from the garden

As promised and as requested, here are some photos from home.

I get to wear pretty house dresses almost every day. I don't usually wear it with a belt when I'm at home, but the belt (vintage, via my mum, by the way) does make it look cuter, and could probably make it work as a day dress, no?

Playing with the wooden wind chimes. That duck (right) is on the top of the chimes (left), and when I pull the handle I'm holding, the duck's neck bobs up and down. So funny - you don't have to be a kid to be amused!

There's some food hanging around. Mangoes on the left, "ketupat" on the right. We had the ketupats yesterday for the Eid celebrations (click on the link if you're curious to learn a bit more about it).

I took a lot more photos, but I didn't want to bombard you with too much in one post. Perhaps I will save it until next time.

xx

P.S. I hope you don't hate me for being slow on commenting back lately!

P.P.S. Happy Eid to those who are celebrating ^_^

I finally arrived in Indonesia yesterday, and it's so good to be home. Will spend time to relax today, probably will read a whole lot of Donald Duck comic books (or Donal Bebek as we fondly know him as) - he's huge here. We subscribe, and I have some catching up to do!

Unfortunately the internet is pretty slow at home, so it will take me a while to visit and comment on your blogs :( I hope you understand. But please know that no comment is left unread or unappreciated.

alice in waterland

I wasn't planning on blogging today, but I just had to share these brilliant Alice in Waterland photos by Elena Kalis. Yes, Waterland - it's no typo. Such an imaginative theme for an underwater photo shoot - as well as a wonderful take on the classic Alice in Wonderland story - whichever way you want to look at it, it's pretty amazing.

There's a whole lot more in the full series. You can also read an interview with the photographer, Elena Kalis, here.

discover the world with me

Check out these adorable e-postcard illustrations from A la Carte Maps. I especially like the second one!

While you're browsing their postcards, you should also check out A la Carte Maps itself. They provide city maps in the form of beautiful hand-drawn artwork, "combining guidebook, tourist map and a piece of art in one". They even have an option of creating your own personalized maps (using cute stickers!). The only problem is that there's not that many cities to choose from - although it does look like new ones are on their way!

On the subject of travelling, I have 2 more days before I go home to Indonesia - yay! I'm hoping to take plenty of pictures with my little point-and-shoot, and depending how well they turn out, will share with you guys (would you be interested in that?). Anyway, I also have a bunch of blog posts already scheduled, so the blog will certainly not be deserted while I'm away.

1920s

I love these 1920s-inspired photos by Julia Galdo. Not only for the gorgeous vintage theme and outfits, but there's a subtle sense of sadness and longing that I think is captured quite beautifully.

post-it

My talented big brother has been drawing on a lot of post-it notes lately, usually when he's bored at work (he works in animation, so it's probably a good type of procrastination). He either draws cute cartoons or tough superheroes/ villains. I prefer the cute stuff! So I picked out some of my favourites to show off here. I wanted to stick them all on a wall, but the glue wore off already.

This one is my favourite:

A couple more post-it loves, found online:

1. Deer Post-Its
2. Faux Wood Memo Block

I feel like I could use a bunch of post-it notes to write to-do lists on right now. I have one week left before I fly to Indonesia for a couple of weeks and I'm starting to feel all fidgety and nervous already, and thinking about all the things I need to take care of before I go. Gah, I worry too much.

Well, one thing I know I have to do right now is announce the winner of the postcard giveaway! So with a little help from random.org, the winner is Gianna Devoto! Congratulations Gianna, I'll be contacting you shortly to get your details :)

Just a reminder, the sale in my shop is only for a couple of more days. I'll close the shop on Friday morning (the 11th) Australia time, which is some time on Thursday (10th) if you're in Europe or America.

OK, I'm off to write my to-do list now.

xx

curious tales

These fun Alice-in-Wonderland images are from the website of Curious Tales, a quirky eco-fashion label based in Belfast, Ireland. They are an ethical label that designs clothing from recycled and organic materials. You've got to love people who create nice things while being kind to the planet, no? I'm sure Alice herself would approve.

Speaking of being eco-friendly, I love my new reusable (polka dotted!) shopping bag. Kindly sent to me (amongst other lovely things) from the lovely Maria. Thank you, sweetie :) I've been using it already!

My internet has gone slow again lately, so it may take a while for me to comment back on your blogs. Sorry! It will only be for a couple more days though, so the hiccup won't last long.

laptops are the new shoe boxes

After this blog post, I was inspired to get out my old laptop and find the photos I took of the hot air balloons that I saw from the window of my previous apartment. The pictures aren't that great compared to the real thing, but I wanted to share it with you anyway. They brought me many smiles on those mornings. I played around with some textures and layers in Photoshop to make them look a tad more interesting.

While I was looking through the files in my old laptop, I came across all sorts of stuff like photos and chat transcripts from my university days. The kind of things that bring back a rush of memories, mostly with friends (and crushes!) who I hardly see anymore. Makes me wonder how much we have shifted from storing memories in the form of sentimental letters and photographs kept in old shoe boxes under the bed, to having them stored digitally on the computer. Sure, we still like to keep "real" items, but that doesn't mean that we don't laugh and cringe just as much when we look at the digital files. Perhaps in the future, when our grandchildren learn about us, instead of discovering a stack of vintage letters and diaries, they'll discover a folder of saved emails and blog entries.

P.S. You may notice that I'm now offering an ad space on my side bar. I'm trying it out through Project Wonderful, so if you're interested, you can have your ad here by paying a mere cent or two. Cheap!
