current love: vintage collars
1. The Vintage Lace Collar in Snow White, 2. 20s-30s Detachable Bib Collar, 3. Vintage Lace, Crochet, tatting, detachable White Collar, 4. Vintage 1940's La Dear Detachable Dress Collar, White with Navy Polka Dots, 5. Vintage 1968 Simplicity Pattern
I love the idea of detachable collars. Why did they ever stop making them anyway? If I could actually sew, I might actually attempt to make that mod dress with the 4 detachable collars (last image). How fun would that be? It would be like having 4, well actually 5, different dresses just by changing the collars around. That's the kind of versatility that I like. So since I'm hopeless with a sewing machine, I spent more time browsing the already-made vintage collars in Etsy instead. See the collar in the 3rd photo? That one is going to be mine! Can't wait to get it in the mail.
Love them! Such a cute and quirky idea.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of detachable collars too! Collar can change the look of your dress/shirt so much :) I actually sewed a shirt dress, the collar isn't detachable but I can wear it in many different ways. Bow, neck tie or just stripes hanging.. :D
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I adore vintage collars too! The one you picked is so gorgeous:)

Very sweet! You could add one of these vintage collars to any old shirt and completely transform it : )
ReplyDeleteIf wishes were collars, I'd have a dozen Peter Pan ones and an Edwardian confection. Great post, I never knew about detachable collars except for men.

ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty interesting collars, I think I favorited the polka dot one on etsy. Ive made one of my own recently being inspired by the shape of the new Miu Miu spring 10 collection, you should come check it out on my blog.

Gosh, I love vintage collars. I've been on the look-out for one for ages while thrifting. For some silly reason I seem to be too lazy to search Etsy. I know, I know, it doesn't make any sense at all. More energy is expended while physically thrifting than would be if I were browsing Etsy while sitting in comfy chair with my laptop ;)
ReplyDeleteThe collar you bought is lovely! I can't wait to see what you wear it with :)
Thanks for the lovely post! Always so nice to see your comments on my wall!

They are really lovely. I adore the 4th collar. That is gorgeous! I want to be able to sew as well because it would be a wonderful skill to have.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I adore your new etsy pieces. And a photo print with the jewellery is such a sweet idea. x
Love these... I loved one of my grandmother's so much, and I never saw her wear it, so a few years ago, I politely asked if I could have it. (Of course, she said yes. Can Mamaw's ever say no?) It's pretty intricate with pearls and such, so I usually just wear with a tee, but I never thought of wearing it with a bear neck and shoulders. What a beautifull idea with a strapless dress this summer!
ReplyDeleteBril!
I actually love the idea of wearing one against bare skin like a necklace as in the first photo!
ReplyDeleteI really love vintage detachable collars, i have two myself!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. They are so cute!

ReplyDeletethey can really dress up any outfit and make you look more delicate and feminine.
my favorite collar is the one i made out of white faux fur for contest and embellished with pink swarovski crystals - you can see it here :)
