what was your favourite childhood toy?
Photos via flickr. Source: top - middle - bottom
I went to see Toy Story 3 with some friends last night, and it was so good!!! It also makes me want to seek out all my old childhood toys and reminisce about those happy little times. There were the Barbie dolls that my best friends and I dressed up and bonded over, a My Little Pony that was always around during bath time (yet there was always a stain on it's back that I could never wash off!), the Legos that were always scattered around the house (sorry mum!) and my favourite is an old teddy bear who I've had for as long as I can remember. He looks after my room while I've lived away from home, and I always give him a big squeeze whenever I come back!
So tell me, what was your favourite childhood toy(s), and do you still have it?
I had a stuffed animal tiger & my little ponies & trolls. If my trolls talked I could totally imagine them being like, "Ya know this jewel in my bellybutton is starting to itch!" hehe. I can't wait to see Toy Story 3
ReplyDeleteI used to have a Mermaid Barbie, and in the bath her tail used to change colour. :) I don't think I still have it though...
ReplyDeletei immediately miss my childhood toys after watching Toy Story 3 tooo.
ReplyDeletesuch a sweet sweet movie.
i used to have this really really ugly teddy called 'Bule'.
he's still around somewhere in this house... i think.
i need to laundry him though...
I have so many favourite toys from my past, it would have to be my trolls and my baby monkey. See my post on my blog talking about relics from my past...:-)

I was a child of the 80s so I def lugged around my Cabbage Patch Doll a lot and Rainbow Brite.
ReplyDeleteIs the UK the only place not showing Toy Story yet? I have to wait until the end of July! Boo
ReplyDeleteI loved Lego and Polly Pocket :)
my FAVORITE teddy bear made his new home somewhere in an airport in france...then came the barbies and plastic horses and american girl dolls

My favourite toy was a doll called "Chabel", and it was the japanese Licca's spanish version. I still have all of them, because they were lovely! It can be said that I'm from the Barbie Generation (early 80s), but I don't keep any of the Barbies I had because I didn't like them. But I keep all my Chabeles safe :)
ReplyDeleteMine was/is my teddy bear i got when i was born...i still have her :)

I want to see Toy Story so bad!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood toys were barbies and stuffed animals. (in fact I still have most of my stuffed animals!)
Care Bears, My little Pony, cabbage patch dolls
ReplyDelete... and of course there was the Barbie phase : )
ooooo that teddy bear watching the computer in bed is adorable !!
ReplyDeletei used to LOVE the Playmobil toys and i had a doll, Noémie, that i really really liked...but damn i had sooo many toys and stuffed animals as a kid...I actually still have a lot ;-)
I had a Raggedy Anne doll that I called Gringa. I was a toddler unable to say Raggedy Anne. Unfortunately, she met her demise by being dropped in the toilet when I was still really young, poor Gringa :(
ReplyDeleteI had a Winnie the Pooh doll. It was my first and got so dirty. I bought another one and my older sister took my old from me. :(
ReplyDeleteBig sisters can be so mean!
My favorites were a cheap red-hair plastic doll, life-sized, that I adored because I had since I was a baby. I don't have it anymore, my parents threw it out when I went away for college.
ReplyDeletemy favorite toy was a large stuffed tiger named molly. she took up half of my twin sized bed when i was a kid but i didn't care! i loved her. sadly, i don't have her anymore but like i said, she was big so i'm not sure where i'd put her given the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite toy was a white stuffed teddy bear with a love heart tattoo stitched on his left foot!
ReplyDeleteHe was called Kumerasan (aka KU)! I still have him. ^__^
Toy Story 3 looks super!
I also had some My Little Ponies, Cabbage Patch Kids and lots of teddy bears. I do still have one of those teddy bears, which is actually a tattered Northern Exposure moose. But it's in a box somewhere in my aunt's garage in the States.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite toy was probably my teddy Casey. I still have her, she was white and had a little green and white pinstrip dress and a matching bow. I dont know what happened to the dress, and the bow came off, and has been sewed on several times since. My dog also chewed out her left eye and her nose. But I still love her.

I used to have lots of Polly Pockets that I would play all day with, together with the barbies and random Macdonalds toys. I don't have them anymore. :(
ReplyDeleteI do have a smaller version of cabbage kid, and it's still with me! so glad I didn't give her away. :)
Aww! I was wishing I knew where my favorite childhood toys were too after TS3! I had a rag doll named Gloria that I carried around by her pigtails until they came off of her head! And I had a stuffed black poodle that, for some reason, I named Black Orchid (I was feeling poetic!).
ReplyDeleteI LOVED polly pockets. Sadly my mother gave them all away and they don't make them any more - tiny parts equal choking hazards. My favourite one was a giant fairyland encased in a glittery purple star-shaped case. Best!
ReplyDeleteI played with my little ponies, too. i know i'm a little bit older than you, but i didn't they were popular for so long.
ReplyDeletei love legos, and cabbage patch kids toys. and jem dolls. she was like a punk rock barbie- had a tv show, pink hair, a guitar, awesome!
Toy Story 3 was absolutely phenomenal! I loved Mr. Pricklypants, even though his part was probably 10 seconds total. I used to read and draw a lot, but one of my favourite toys was a Christmas-themed teddy bear named Snowball. She still sits on my bed right now, with me through all of my childhood, teenage years and even college. Now in my post-grad, pre-grad school years, she's still by my side!
ReplyDeletethose pics are way too cute, I still have my old teddy bear and used to play just with lego all day long... might be time to dig some of that stuff out again
ReplyDeleteI used to have some bratz/barbie dolls.
ReplyDeletei had a baby doll, KIKI, since i was 2 with his sleeping box and a few baby's clothes. still have him now sleeping soundly next to my bed in my house :)

ReplyDeleteFavorite TV Show: Jem and the Holograms...."Totally Outrageous"
Just now found your blog-great stuff!
Barbie's were definnitely my favourite toy! However, as crazy as it sounds, I love playing with marbles too!

ReplyDeleteI loved Toy Story. Almost made me want to cry thinking about the good times in childhood.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful memories!! I had little Ponny! a green one lots of puzzels!! Nice post!! Bye!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all let me say that I love the first photograph, which is Athena's.Do you know her blog? It's adorable.Anyway, about the toy...well...I still have all my childhood toys in the attic and a part of them in my room, but I do not recall being particulary attached to one of them. There is one Barbie doll which I absolutely love among the other 5 or 6 and there was a baby doll I played a lot with. But a favourite toy...I do not really think I have.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet. I must! This is a terrific idea for a post. Such fun. Gosh, lets see... I had so many favorites. I really liked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Haha! Also, my sister and I were really into all the quintessential 80's toys: Care Bears, She-Ra action figures, and My Little Ponies. Like you, I have a beloved stuffed animal that's been with me for as long as I can remember: a little purple bunny rabbit. Gosh, I loved her so. I don't think I'll ever be able to get rid of her.
