Today I went to see an Indonesian film titled Sang Pemimpi ("the Dreamers"). Based on a best-selling book and being a sequel to another successful film, it is about friendship, strength, pride, and - as the title suggests - dreams. Set in the 1980s in a small Indonesian island, it tells the story of two best friends who have big dreams of seeing the world (ultimately to one day study in Sorbonne, Paris). They go through a lot of hardship, some are hilarious while others are heart breaking. It is an emotional and inspirational story, which I wish I could describe in a much better way - because it deserves it, and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased. Although I admit I felt a tad nostalgic for my own Indonesian high school days when I saw the classic white/grey school uniforms in the film. Not sure how much the movie will be distributed internationally, but if you ever get a chance to see it, I recommend that you do.

teal steal

I explored a little op shop near my new neighbourhood for the first time, after catching a glimpse of it one day on the tram. Although I didn't find much amongst their piles of jumbled knick-knacks, and even thought a lot of their things were overpriced, I did score these amazing pair of teal tights for $1! I love them! I'm sure I can get plenty of wear out of them as autumn is fast approaching in this corner of the world. I'm also glad that this dress that I had put up for sale on eBay last month didn't sell (I guess it wasn't meant to be!), because now I think I'll be getting a lot more wear out of it too - seeing that it goes pretty well with the tights!

After months of hearing wonderful things about Shadow Shot Sunday, set up by Tracy of Hey Harriet, I have finally gotten around to submitting one of my own! This was taken at a nearby train station, as I was waiting for my train to arrive. I'm glad I had my camera with me, and I could amuse myself by taking photos of what would usually be the most mundane sight. Thank you Tracy for hosting this fun project!

I have started exploring and walking around my new neighbourhood and beyond, with my film camera right there with me. From the top: I have seen a 24-hour florist (because who wouldn't need flowers 24 hours a day?), someone's lush apple tree, more flowers (please excuse my freakishly long toes), temporary art installations outside a construction site, and I also noticed my name when I was crossing the street (see it?).

I came across these collages on Etsy yesterday, and absolutely adore them. Made by Vantiani, who offers them as postcards, blank cards, and gift tags. I just love the incorporation of used stamps as the backgrounds, especially the Indonesian ones - because it brings back memories of my stamp collecting days when I was growing up. I'm sure I had the one on the bottom left corner! Did you ever, or still do, collect pretty stamps? I would hate to think it's a dying hobby in this day and age.
