the dreamers

Today I went to see an Indonesian film titled Sang Pemimpi ("the Dreamers"). Based on a best-selling book and being a sequel to another successful film, it is about friendship, strength, pride, and - as the title suggests - dreams. Set in the 1980s in a small Indonesian island, it tells the story of two best friends who have big dreams of seeing the world (ultimately to one day study in Sorbonne, Paris). They go through a lot of hardship, some are hilarious while others are heart breaking. It is an emotional and inspirational story, which I wish I could describe in a much better way - because it deserves it, and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased. Although I admit I felt a tad nostalgic for my own Indonesian high school days when I saw the classic white/grey school uniforms in the film. Not sure how much the movie will be distributed internationally, but if you ever get a chance to see it, I recommend that you do.

I'm always happy to see interesting films! I doubt it will come to Norway, though, but who knows... ;)

I hope you had a great Sunday, Anna! :)

When I saw the title of this post, I thought you meant the Bertolucci film of the same name. I really wouldn't mind seeing this one though. Hopefully it might come over here, but who knows?

The shots are amazing. I'll keep an eye out at my library. Our AV librarian is very good about getting new independent or international movies once they come out. Hopefully I'll come across The Dreamers.

This sounds like the type of movie I'd really enjoy! Hopefully it'll come to the local indie movie theater in my town. They play foreign movies on occasion, so I'll keep my eyes open for it! :)
