from the market

So, me and Penelope had a stall at Fitzroy market yesterday, and it was lots of fun! Here are some shots of my humble little end of the table. Not the most professional looking display - with everything scattered all over the place, and not even having a table cloth, price tags, or proper business cards - but seeing that people still stopped and looked (and purchased), I'm happy with it. I had all of my Etsy jewellery, and also some handmade polymer clay pieces that I made ages ago but hadn't had success selling in the past - mostly cupcake and birdy pendants. Luckily they sold pretty well yesterday! They were also a good source of "That's so cuuute!!" reactions - which is always exciting to hear! However, the most amusing thing we heard was probably when a little boy was looking at the charm necklaces and suddenly asked "Are these real??"... which after a short awkward silence, I confusedly replied "real what?" (we later found out he was wondering if they were really gold or silver... not if they were a mere illusion or something)

I also brought along some photo prints (yes, I've started getting my photos professionally printed - but more on that another time). This was the first time I displayed my photos publicly and in person, and really, I just want to see how people might react. So the day goes by, and I'm pleased with the sales I make from my jewellery, but no one even seems to notice the photos (they're on the top corner of the table, btw). Then just when I was packing up and taking the photos off the table, a girl who walked past our stall earlier came back and said she wanted to buy one of my prints! It absolutely became the highlight of my day! Sure, I made a lot more from my other sales, and it was just ONE print, but it was the first ever photo print I've ever sold, and that was such an awesome feeling. In case you're wondering, it was a print of the 4th photo I posted in this blog post.

P.S. The winner of the Revolving Styles giveaway is babalisme. Congratulations! I'll be in touch with you shortly to get your details :)

PPS. Gosh, didn't realize how long this blog post is. Sorry for being so chatty today!

Oooh I'm first to comment! Yay! I really like the look of your stall but it does look very hot out there with only an umbrella for cover! Congrats on your sales & I'm so glad to hear that you have sold your first photo! Woohoo! Now get them listed in your Etsy shop pronto!

After all this waffling I'm probably no longer the first comment... :)

Ooooh I can so much relate with all you´re saying. I´ve just started my etsy shop a month ago or so, and the idea of someone wanting or liking something I do is more exciting than people actually buying it!! Congratulations on taking the step of having your pictures printed professionaly and display them!

Ahh, glad you had a good time lovely, and even without the preparation it still looks awesome!

All the best with your prints, they're so hard to sell as they's just so many people selling prints but don't give up, you've got real talent!

I'm glad to hear you had a good day. Those polymer clay things are adorable, especially the owls of course. I can't believe they didn't sell online.

I'm happy you sold a print in the end too.

I had an awkward "is this real" moment too... I was the buyer, I asked, and this shop girl looks at me as if I had been high on something.

Thank you for picking me, I know random org picked me, but Hey thank you anyway! >smoochies<
